Czech Food Recipes
Czech food recipes have a lot in common with those of other Eastern and Central European countries. Its geographical placement have granted great involvement in the political happenings of Europe and thus lots of cultural exchange have taken place. Before discussing the cuisine I am gong to start with some history. Brief History Lesson Slavic tribes arrived in the region in 5th century AD, by the 8th century the first Slav state had established itself in the area. In the 9th century it had evolved into a Bohemian kingdom, by many considered to be the first Czech state (Bohemia is the old name for Czechia). Bohemia was for most of the period until 1804 part of the Holy Roman Empire. During this time the Slavic population got mixed up with Germanics due to immigration. From the 16th century the ties to Austria became increasingly stronger, after 1804 and the fall of the Holy Roman Empire it was an integral part of Austria. The territory of Bohemia varied much in accordance to success in several wars, adversaries were; Mongols, Turks and Austrians. After the First World War in 1918 the independent republic of Czechoslovakia was formed. It was split up during the Second World War but otherwise remained until 1993 when it was split into Czech Republik and Slovakia. During the years 1946 until 1989 it was a communist country under dominance of the Soviet Union. Today it is part of the European Union and a modern democratic state. It is a popular tourist destination.
Kolache is a jam filled pastryCzech Cuisine Like mentioned earlier, Czech food recipes share many similiarities to those of neighbouring countries; in particular Germany, Poland and Austria. It is quite sturdy and heavy food with a clear rural background. Beef, pork and chicken are the most common meats, in traditional recipes game is also in ample use. Of the cereals rye and wheat are most important; many times in the form of bread. Root vegetables like rutabaga, onions and potatoes have been and is common ingredients, lately also fresh vegetables have become more popular. Dairy products, such as cheese, are in ample use. 'Some Foods And Dishes Of Czechia Smetana A fat sour cream. Knedliky Large dumplings made of wheat or potato, served with meals. Can also be a dessert, then filled with fruits, nuts or jams. Utopenci Pickled spicy sausages. Pivni syr A kind of a beer cheese. Roast pork with knedlicky and sauerkraut A very popular dish. Bramboraky Potato pancakes. Smazak Fried breaded cheese, hello calories! Bramborovy salat Mayonaisse based potato salad. Shawerma Meat grilled on skewers, has its origins in the Middle Eastern shish kebab. Falafil Another one from Asia, fried chickpea balls. Bramboracka Potato soup. Svickova na smetane Beef marinated in smetana often served with knedlicky. Zelnacka Sauerkraut soup. Medovnik Honey cake. Kaloche A jam filled pastry. Czech Beverages The Czechs drink most beer (In Czech pivo) per capita in the world, they are specialized in the pilzner type of dry lager.
